In order to try to slow the spread of COVID-19, the fullest cooperation of all residents of long-term care settings, their families and friends is essential at this critical point. This Memo reflects our recommendations only.

Culture change in Wisconsin’s nursing homes.

The state has a role in monitoring the process and for assisting the residents in moving, along with the county human services agencies.

The Long Term Care Ombudsman Program is available to answer questions about the many troublesome issues.

In today’s trends toward more homelike environments with person directed care, long term care providers need to take a close look at how personal alarms are used.

Visiting someone in a nursing home keeps them connected socially and emotionally. It helps make them stronger. Additionally, your presence at the home can help assure better care.

Every person who lives in a long term care facility should have the best quality of care and best quality of life possible. It requires good communication with the facility, the resident and the resident’s family to achieve this outcome.

Increasingly, callers are complaining to the Board on Aging and Long Term Care about nursing home and assisted living facilities giving inadequate​ notice to consumers regarding certain provisions in the admission or rental agreements that they are asked to sign.

The right to sexual expression does not change simply because an individual lives in a nursing home or assisted living facility.

There has been much confusion over the years regarding the right and authority of family members to access information and/or direct the care and treatment of loved ones living in long term care facilities. ​
